Mattie Josey

Mrs. Mattie Florence Josey Phillips, 91, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, at Select Specialty Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Mrs. Phillips was a life long resident of Starkville, a telephone operator for 22 years and retired as part owner of Starkville TV Cable. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Starkville and the Dorcas Sunday School Class. She loved to fish, the outdoors, country music and to collect crystal pieces
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mattie Josey; and her husband, Sam Phillips, Jr.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by daughters, Florence Yvonne Phillips of Houston, Texas, and Virginia Kay Hartness (Ron) of Starkville; son, Josey Vincent Phillips (Vicki Lynn) of Brandon; grandchildren, Laura Smith (Chad), Phil Hartness (Karen) and Meredith Phillips; and a great grandchild, Cole Smith.
Visitation for Mrs. Phillips will be held noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville with the funeral service immediately following at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Welch Funeral Home. Rev. Clifton Curtis and Rev. Leslie Mills will officiate.
Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Park.
