Homer Weir Kerr, Jr., 83, died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 ,at the Oktibbeha County Regional Hospital. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Starkville.
Homer retired as an engineer with South Central Bell Telephone Company. He held state and local offices in the Telephone Pioneers and Civitan Club. He was a member of the Starkville Shrine Club, the Hamasa Temple in Meridian and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Homer was a U. S. Army Veteran of the post-World War II era.
Homer was an avid Mississippi State University fan and volunteered as a greeter for the past 20 years at the Leo Seals M-Club and Humphrey Coliseum, where he welcomed former and present athletes as well as members of the press.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011, in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church in Starkville.
Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the sanctuary and continue until the time of the service.
Kerr is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mamie Sue Miller Kerr; daughters, Debbie Swartz and her husband, Larry, of Columbus, and Melinda Wolz and her husband, Rob, of Savannah, Ga.; sister, Ganelle McRae; four grandchildren, Molly Stafford and her husband, Stewart, Eric Swartz, Miller Wolz and Amy Claire Wolz; and three great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Homer Weir Kerr, Sr. and Inez Haynes Kerr; and sisters, Sara Catherine Kerr and Eunice Kyle.
