Hunt announces re-election bid for Oktibbeha Coroner

In announcing his candidacy for Coroner of Oktibbeha County, Michael Hunt made the following statement:
“My name is Michael Hunt, and I am seeking re-election for Coroner of Oktibbeha County. I was raised in Oktibbeha County and have five children: Tyler, Kaylee, Abbie, Mackenzie and Emma. I am a member of Morgan Chapel Baptist Church.
“I am a graduate of The University of Alabama’s program in emergency pre-hospital medicine and have served 16 years as your coroner. I have 25 years of medical experience, and I am also the director of emergency medical services for Oktibbeha County as well as a national registered paramedic. In addition, I am a member of the board of directors of the North Mississippi Trauma System and was voted 2006 Coroner of the year.
“I would also like to mention that I have received over 400 hours of training in death investigations. I believe the Chief Medical Examiner Investigator/Coroner office should be required to have medical expertise, and I have lobbied to have it mandated. The Chief Medical Examiner Investigator/Coroner needs to understand not only why someone dies, but the process that caused an individual’s death. This can even be a difficult task with medical experience.
“When I first decided to run for Chief Medical Examiner/Coroner, I vowed to upgrade this office with medical experience, and I feel like I have done this in the past 16 years. I have worked closely with law enforcement, pastors, and funeral homes. I would ask that you not just go on my word, but ask families that I have served.
“I would like to express my sincere thanks to the citizens of Oktibbeha County for your support for the past 16 years and ask for your continued support on Nov. 8. If re-elected, I will continue to serve you with compassion and dedication.
“Please re-elect me for Chief Medical Examiner Investigator/Coroner, the only candidate with medical expertise.”
