Martha Ann Perkins Nason was born on May 24, 1942 in Scottdale, Ga., to Alton Brooks Perkins and Thelma Stinchcomb Perkins. She met Gerald Nason, Sr. in Georgia and married him on May 13, 1961. This year, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
She is survived by two sisters, Nellie Henck of Georgia and Betty Walker of Ohio. She had three children, Lynn Nason McClelland (Randall) of Sturgis, Genia Nason Compton (Doyle) of Sturgis and Gerald "Buster" Nason Jr. (Jackie) of Sturgis. She is also survived by grandchildren, Brooke (Matthew) Salley, Daniel (Crystal) McClelland, Ray McClelland, Austin McClelland, Heath Ray, Tri Nason (fiancee Brittany Shurden) Whitney Crocker (Josh), Alex McCafferty and Chandler McCafferty; and three great-grandchildren, with another great-grandchild expectant this winter.
Martha Nason was a registered nurse with over 35 years experience. She retired from Oktibbeha County Hospital as an OB/GYN/pediatric nurse.
Martha loved everyone, especially her family, which reflected in her home and work life. She always had encouraging words and a sweet smile for everyone.
Although Martha retired as a nurse, she was a nurturing caregiver at heart. She was also making sure everyone was cared for despite her illness, and remained that way until her death in her home on Oct. 9, 2011. She was an active member of Wake Forest Baptist Church until her illness this year.
Visitation will be at Coleman Funeral Home in Ackerman on Tuesday, Oct. 11 from 5-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 12 at Wake Forest Baptist Church in Sturgis at 2 p.m.
