The retirement of Starkville High School's Danny Carlisle as a teacher was made official Tuesday night after a vote by the Starkville School Board.
Carlisle's final day on the job as a teacher was last Friday, but the item was on the agenda for staffing by the school board on Tuesday.
As the baseball coach, Carlisle finished his 27th season with the team earlier this year. The Yellowjackets just missed out on the Class 6A playoffs when South Panola came back from a 13-6 deficit in the seventh inning to win a 14-13 decision.
Starkville finished with records of 9-12 overall and 2-7 in Class 6A, Region 2 last season.
Carlisle confirmed his retirement as a teacher to The Starkville Daily News on Wednesday night, but wasn't ready to comment further about his future plans.
