The Mississippi Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning on Thursday approved the exterior design of the football facility at Mississippi State University.
The new facility that is planned to be built between the Palmeiro Center and the current practice field, will be 80,000 square feet and is funded through the MSU Athletic Department.
Inside the new facility will be space for football offices, a sports medicine complex and player position rooms just to name a few and will cut football operations down to two buildings from the current six they are in currently.
MSU head coach Dan Mullen says he had many thoughts about the new facility and is ready to get things rolling.
"I can't wait to get it going," said Mullen. "We've had a lot of meetings and we'll continue to have a lot of meetings about everything that's going into it. Not just the exterior design but the interior. Myself and Jon Clark will be very involved in that."
Work on the new facility is scheduled to start in September but the projected completion date isn't until December 2012, so the Bulldogs have two more football seasons at least before the facility will be up and running.
However, the approval of the exterior design is one step of many to getting the facility completed so it can service the Bulldogs' football staff and players.
