FLOWOOD – The West Oktibbeha Timberwolves opened their 2011 campaign on the road and came home with a 44-36 win over University Christian.
Head coach Adam Lowrey said a lot of his players suffered from cramps during the game, but fought through the pain.
The Timberwolves went for two points after almost every score, and most of their offensive production was credit to Dwight Quinn and Shun Fair. Quinn finished the night with six catches for 35 yards and three touchdowns. Fair racked up 118 yards rushing on 15 carries.
It wasn't all about the offense for the Timberwolves, as they got some big stops from their defense.
Tiberias Lampkin led the defense in the season opener with seven total tackles and two tackles for losses.
"It was a tough game," said Lowrey. "Our guys fought through it and got the win."
The win marks the second year in a row that the Timberwolves have opened the season with road wins, but will host Montgomery County next Friday night.
