Shauna Alexandra Burton, 23, Mississippi State University student, passed away Aug. 15, 2011 in Denver, Colo. after a lengthy illness. Born Oct. 24, 1987, in California, she spent much of childhood with relatives in Mississippi and attended Starkville Academy in grammar school.
A third year pre-vet student, her dream was to become a wild-life veterinarian. She was the consummate animal lover and enjoyed volunteering for work with the recovery and release of many kinds of wild animals.
Shauna is survived by her mother, Shannon K. Burton; a sister, Shelby Marie Burton, both of Lafayette, Colo.; grandparents, Stuart and Mikell Vance of Starkville; an aunt, Lisa (Duane) Knight of Tallahassee, Fla.; and a great aunt, Sharon (Don) Hare of Colorado Springs, Colo. Shauna was preceded in death by her beloved dog “Roscoe.”
The family is very appreciative of the efforts of the staff of North Mississippi Medical Center.
