Memorial services for Elizabeth Lee Hearon Abbott (Betty) will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Aug. 5, 2011, at 2 p.m.
Visitation with the family will be held in Stratton Chapel one hour before the service beginning at 1 p.m.
Betty was born in Harramin, Tennessee, June 23, 1923, and grew up in Starkville where she met and married George William Abbott of Natchez. She made a life in Natchez and lived at Selma Plantation, teaching in the public schools, active in the First Presbyterian Church and tirelessly supported her children in their various pursuits. She was an accomplished hostess, seamstress and cook, and she contributed to many community, professional and church organizations.
Betty moved to Greenville, Mississippi, to Denver Colorado, and finally to the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. Everywhere she lived she was an avid community volunteer.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, George William Abbott, her son, George William Abbott Jr. ( Billy), her sisters, Mary Evelyn Hearon Scales, Norfleet Daniel Hearon Beebe, her brother Clay Hamner Hearon and her parents, Mary Evelyn Jackson Hearon and Clay Hamner Hearon.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Stowers Abbott, her grandsons, Olivio Piola Caselli, William Eric Abbott Hunt, her sister, Erin Hearon Wiltshire and many nieces and nephews.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials should be donated to the works of the Presbyterian Church, a lifelong venue for Betty’s energies.
