Special county school board meeting today

The Oktibbeha County School Board will hold a special meeting Monday to cover some issues that were not addressed in its last meeting.
The superintendent’s office was packed up in late June in preparation for relocation to a new building on Main Street in Starkville. Some of the items needed for the regular meeting held on July 5 were still packed away in boxes, Superintendent James Covington told the board.
However, the move was pushed back until the end of July after an inspection of the new building revealed numerous cosmetic issues, according to Covington. He said the office will be moved to its new location by July 29, just days before the county schools open for the new year.
There are several important issues on the agenda for the special meeting. The board plans to approve handbooks for the elementary and secondary schools as well as the staff for the entire district.
The board will approve the resolution to purchase eight new buses for the district, four new and four used. The busses will help the district phase out some of their older models in their fleet. Each campus will receive one new and one used bus.
The budget adoption calendar and insurance for the upcoming school year are also on the list for approval by the board.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Office of the Superintendent at 800-A Louisville St., next to Dirt Cheap in Starkville.
