The city of Starkville lifted a burn ban Wednesday after almost two weeks of dry conditions.
“Over the last two days, the city of Starkville received at least three inches of rain,” Fire Marshal Mark McCurdy said. “Now that we’re back to not having a ban, if someone wants to burn, they’re required to come get a burn permit from the city.”
Dry ground conditions over an extended amount of time can turn a small grass fire into a large blaze.
