MIDDLETON, N.J. — G. Allen Greenwood, 98, formerly of Shrewsbury, N.J. died on Thursday, April 28, 2011, at the Hospice and Palliative Care Unit of the G. V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson.
He was born August 5, 1912 in New Monmouth, N.J. and was a lifelong resident of the area until 1998 when he moved to Mississippi to be closer to his son and daughter-in-law.
He graduated Middletown High School, Leonardo in 1932. He served in the U.S. Army’s 5th Armored Division in Europe during World War II (1942 - 1945). He worked for Lavoie Laboratories, Frequency Engineering, and Bailey Gifts. He loved gardening, woodworking, and being with his family.
He is survived by his son, Allen G. Greenwood, and daughter-in-law, Jane Britt Greenwood, of Starkville, Miss.; and by his brother William Greenwood of Eatontown, N.J.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Thelma Reynolds Greenwood. He is also predeceased by his parents Caroline Allen and Stephen Greenwood, Sr.; three sisters Marge Potter, Grace Scott, and Bertha Stryker; and brother Stephen Greenwood, Jr.
The family would like to thank Dr. Steven Brandon and the staff of the Family Clinic, Vickers Personal Care Home, the Carrington Nursing Home, OCH Medical Center, Mississippi State Veterans Home --‐ Kosciusko, and the hospital and hospice at the G. V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center for their care and support during the last years of Allen’s life.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 3, 2011 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. with the funeral service immediately following at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown, NJ. Burial will be at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
