PHILADELPHIA — A memorial service for Buddie Joe King will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. from First United Methodist Church in Philadelphia with Rev. Fred Britton officiating. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will begin Saturday at 9 a.m. at First United Methodist Church.
Mr. King, 71, of Philadelphia, died Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Neshoba County Nursing Home in Philadelphia.
He was a native of Leake County and a long time resident of Philadelphia. He was a 1956 graduate of Philadelphia High School and received a bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University.
Mr. King formerly worked for Commercial Union Assurance Company in Jackson and for Crawley Law Firm in Louisville as an insurance investigator. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Philadelphia where he was a long time choir member and youth leader. He was an avid fan of all Mississippi State University athletics. Mr. King served in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne in Europe.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Shelley King of Philadelphia; daughters, Jo Carol King of Philadelphia, and Susanna King (Hayes) Brooks of Starkville; sons, Phil (Sonya) King of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and John (Leslie) King, Leslie Philadelphia; grandchildren, Garrett King, Ashleigh King, and Simmons Brooks; and brother, Ricky (Donna) King of Chattanooga, Tenn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Music and Youth Ministries or a favorite charity.
