Preschoolers enjoy My Many Colored Days

On Friday, Feb. 18, the Maben Library was filled to the brim with colorfully-dressed boys and girls, all eager to do something fun at Story Time.
Today, the sun was beaming through the windows, the children were jabbering to each other, mothers and grandmothers were catching up on the week, and Ms. Mary was gathering them all up in a circle for the book of the week: My Many Colored Days by Dr. Seuss.  The children were pretty much up on their colors, so Ms. Mary had them locate the colors in the room. This was a contest in just minutes. The hardest color, Ms. Mary thought, was gray, but Amberly Turner was quick off the bat and located a gray bunny rabbit sitting up on the shelves.
After the book, the group moved to the craft table and colored book markers depicting My Many Colored Days. Isaac, a friend of Amberly, was definitely the best “colorer” in the group.
Then the real fun began; Ms. Mary brought out the play dough: pink, purple, and green, and all of the letters of the alphabet. Ms. Dottie, the strong person in the group, had the pleasure of helping the tiny tots flatten out the dough, so they could cut out their initials.  It was pleasant to hear them politely ask for letters and to share the scissors with each other.
A new kid on the block (story hour) was Braden Hammons, son of Rhiannon Hammons and grandson of Diane and Barry Cole, who was most studious for a first time kid as he worked with the play dough. Welcome Braden and Granny Diane.
After playing for a while, they all gathered up books for grandmaw to read next week. With high fives and shouted “good byes,” they all left the building.
