Starkville-area man back in custody

A Starkville-area man is back in custody after walking away from Oktibbeha County authorities over the weekend.
Ceforrest Hendricks, 31, of 1630 Josey Allen Road, was previously on probation for forgery, then he was accused of cashing a check which wasn’t his and allegedly taking the money, Sheriff Dolph Bryan said. He was brought back to jail Jan. 13. Hendricks, a shop trusty, walked off Saturday around 5 p.m., Bryan said.
He left a note to say he had something to take care of, couldn’t do it from jail and would be back before lockdown, the sheriff said, adding he called in several times.
Members of the public encountered a strange man asking to use the phone and authorities were tracing calls he made from a cell phone, Bryan said. Officer James Lindsey made the apprehension around 3 a.m. Monday in an area south of Starkville.
Other shifts worked on the case and the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department helped out on the matter.
Plus, Columbus has a fugitive apprehension program connected to the U.S. Marshals Office helped in the case, the sheriff said. Hendricks now faces an escape charge, which could add another five years to his time, Bryan said.
