County firefighters were called to the area of 2650 New Light Road for a wind-driven grass, brush and debris fire shortly after noon Wednesday.
The fire resulted in about 20 acres of burned ground.
Ultimately units and personnel from Central Oktibbeha, Adaton/Self Creek, Bell Schoolhouse and Maben participated in the extinguishment efforts, fire officials said. The Mississippi Forestry Commission also responded with their fire-plow apparatus.
Firefighters were able to keep the blaze away from structures and vehicles.
Fire officials urge homeowners and landowners to be careful of an open burning as such fires can easily and quickly become uncontrolled thus endangering forest lands, buildings and outdoor machinery.
