Church group donates hand-made quilts

Giving isn’t just a Christmas seaon thing for the Clarkson Baptist Church Ladies Sewing Group.  It’s a habit they practice all year long. 
“We’ve made and given away over a thousand quilts,” said Ruth Perkins, the founder of the group.   
The recipient this week was OSERVS, the Oktibbeha-Starkville Emergency Response Volunteer Services.
Other recipients have been Baptist Children’s Hospital in Jackson, victims of house fires, tornados, and hurricanes, and “anyone who can use them,” as the ladies are quick to say.
They’ve expanded their work to sets of caps, mittens, and scarves for Palmer Home’s children, and they make baby quilts as well as twin size, doubles, and queen size.
This week they received a gift of fabric – an essential to keep them moving forward. 
“We are so fortunate.  We have never had to purchase fabric; people give it to us or send us a check to help purchase it,” Perkins explained. 
One member of the group bought two bags of fabric and quilt tops at a sale; others find pieces they want to work with and bring it to the Tuesday night sewing sessions. 
It validates Perkins’ belief that the group is doing God’s work. 
“He led me to this and He keeps us supplied,” she smiled. 
OSERVS Board Chair Carol Moss Read is pleased that OSERVS is one of the beneficiaries of the group’s generosity. 
“There’s nothing like a warm quilt for comfort; the comfort this brings to others is a blessing.  We appreciate the work these ladies do on our behalf,” Read said.
