MACON – Starkville Academy's Bailey Wofford doubled three times to pace a strong Lady Volunteers' offensive attack in a 13-2 win over Central Academy on Tuesday.
The lone senior on SA's softball roster finished 3-for-4 at the plate, helping improve the Lady Vols' record to 4-2.
"It was a good day," said SA head coach Jessica Dickens. "We've just got to keep this up heading into conference play next week."
Adrienne Futral and Julianne Jackson aided Wofford's performance with a single and an RBI apiece.
Jackson notched the pitching win for SA, going the distance, walking none, and striking out five.
SA's 13-run output marks the third time this season that the Lady Vols have notched a double-digit run total.
Even so, Dickens says her club can't afford to get complacent.
"We hit the ball well (Tuesday), and even against Oak Hill (Monday)," said Dickens. "Things will get tougher though."
The Lady Vols will take today off before returning to action Thursday on the campus of East Mississippi Community College where they'll play Kemper Academy at 4:30 p.m.
SA wraps up their busy week with a game at Leake Academy Friday at 2 p.m., and Saturday games as part of the Starkville Academy Invitational at Mississippi State.
The Lady Vols open up the home portion of their schedule, as well as conference play, on August 10 against Washington.
"I'm ready to see how the team will perform when conference play starts," said Dickens. "Hopefully the momentum we're building this week will carry on over into next week."
