Starkville’s Hilary Cook was recently names Miss Magnolia State 2011.
Hillary is a recent graduate of MSU. While at MSU she majored in Communication with a double emphasis in Broadcasting and Public Relations.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication July 2010.
During her time at MSU, she was actively involved in Kappa Delta sorority, MSU Fashion Board, Alumni Delegates, Sigma Alpha Lambda Leadership Honor Society, Student Broadcasting Association, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Order of Omega Greek Honor Society, MSU Student Senate and Intramural softball.
Since graduation, Hillary worked as an intern in the Media Collaborations Lab at the Social Science Research Center. She is currently employed at
Statewide Federal Credit Union and Mugshots.
During Hillary’s spare time she enjoys running, training for half-marathons, scrapbooking, baking, painting, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
Hillary is the daughter of Bill and Marguerite Cook of Starkville, MS. She has a younger sister Neely Cook.
Her other awards include Miss Congeniality (voted by peers); Most photogenic 4th alternate; and Best Dressed 4th alternate.
Miss Magnolia State began in 2002. It was an addition to the Mrs. Mississippi Wife of the Year pageant which began in 2000 (this pageants name was changed in 2008 and is now the Mrs. Magnolia State pageant which is held along with the Jr. Teen, Teen and Miss.)
There are three areas of competition for each division: interview, casual wear, and evening gown. There is an on stage question for those selected in the top 5.
Each winner receives a $500 scholarship and a cruise.
This year there were over 100 ladies in the pageant. 27 Jr. Teen , 36 Teen,
21 Miss, and 20 Mrs. Contestants. The pageant was held November 20-21 in Vicksburg.
The first day consisted of interviews, opening number practice, and a preliminary round for all contestants. At the tend of the night ad sale awards were given to those who sold four or more full-page ads. Four ladies were also awarded Miss Congeniality; Hillary Cook was selected by her peers as the Miss Division's Miss Congeniality.
The second day consisted of opening number, announcement of Top 10 in each division, casual wear and evening wear, and the Top 5 in each division.
