SDN Staff Reports
The scheduled community work day to continue to the tornado cleanup at The Pines Mobile Home Park is being rescheduled.
The work day, organized by members of the Starkville High School Class of 1975, was to begin at 10 a.m. today, but is being canceled due to the threat of rainy weather today.
Today’s weather forecast calls for an 80 percent chance for rain and thunderstorms.
“With the weather forecast looking bad, we thought is best to go ahead and reschedule the cleanup day,” said Geri Jones, the Class of 1975 member who is helping to coordinate the work day.
The work day has been rescheduled for Dec. 18 beginning at 10 a.m. Those wanting to participate are asked to meet outside the management offices at The Pines for work assignments.
Those who plan to help are asked to bring yard rakes, shovels, power saws, garbage bags, garbage cans, trucks and trailers, Jones said.
Protective eyewear and work gloves are also encouraged, Jones added.
An initial work day held Dec. 4 saw a significant amount of debris cleared away. The next work day aims to continue cleaning up fallen tree limbs and other vegetative debris, and — pending consultation with the management at The Pines — begin removing damaged mobile home debris, Jones said.
