The threat of rain and thunderstorms were expected to linger into this morning as forecasters predicted severe weather into the early hours of today.
As of late Monday afternoon, National Weather Service officials expected possible severe weather, including damaging winds of between 60 and 70 mph, one or two strong tornadoes, heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding to roll through east Mississippi overnight through around 4 a.m. today.
Heavy rains with some high wind gusts did materialize Monday night, and a tornado warning was issued for Oktibbeha County and neighboring Clay, Choctaw, Webster and Winston counties between 9 and 10 p.m. Monday.
Forecasters expected the temperature to remain steady overnight around the upper 50s, with the thermometer plummeting to around 42 by 5 p.m. today.
The chance of rain for today is 60 percent with new rainfall of less than a tenth of an inch, with larger amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Rain is expected to taper off to a 20 percent of showers before midnight with a low of 27 and west northwest winds between 5 and 10 mph.
