MANTEE — The funeral for Robert Elmer Dobbs will be today at 1 p.m. at Mantee Baptist Church in Mantee with a military burial in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Webster County.
The Revs. Randall Poss and Bo Farrior will officiate.
Visitation will be today from 11 a.m. until service time.
Mr. Dobbs, 83, died Sunday, November 14, 2010 at the State Veterans Home in Kosciusko after a long illness.
He was born June 6, 1927 in Choctaw County to Joe Thomas Dobbs and Ruth Agnes “Ruthie” Blasingame Dobbs.
He courageously served in WWII with the U.S. Navy as a gunner’s mate.
After the war, he graduated from Cumberland High School in Webster County and married Dorothy Johnson in 1948.
Together, they reared three girls while living in Mantee. He enjoyed training Tennessee Walking horses and bird dogs, reading all kinds of books, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. He was a former Post Master at Mantee and a building contractor. He was a member of Mantee Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Johnson Dobbs of Mantee; his three daughters, Rhonda Williamson of Brandon, Rita (Randy) Chriswell of Starkville, and Rachel Harden of Tupelo; his eight grandchildren, Johnson, Wes, Blair and Carley Beth Williamson, JoAnna and Randall Chriswell, Jacob (Stephanie) Harden and Josh Harden; his brother, Rasse Dobbs of Dubach, La.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ruthie Dobbs and nine siblings.
Pallbearers are his grandsons, Johnson, Wes, Blair, Randall, Jacob and Josh. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Maben Literary Guild. Memorials may be made to the Maben Library, Maben, MS 39750, or Mantee Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 161, Mantee, MS 39751.
