Listeners to the Mississippi State University football pregame radio show have one more opportunity this season to hear details on an upcoming event in Starkville.
Jennifer Gregory, the Greater Starkville Development Partnership’s vice president for tourism development, mentioned the three-minute radio segment to the Visitors and Convention Council Wednesday.
She provided additional details after Wednesday’s meeting.
With every home game during the official MSU pregame radio show, a three-minute, live interview segment takes place and “is broadcast to a statewide audience in which promote upcoming events in the Starkville community,” she said.
The segment has featured such activities as the recent Viva Starkvegas events and Citywide Tailgate among others.
The decision to advertise with MSU athletics was made specifically to target families and individuals who have an affinity for Starkville and MSU, Gregory said.
“Our hope is to plan and promote events around home football games” to which MSU fans will either come to Starkville a day early or stay a day later than they initially planned, she said.
The segment is something new this season along with the local tourism organization being the title sponsor for the MSU Game Day website.
A large number of visitors and local residents have let GSDP officials know “they are noticing our presence at MSU athletic events and are consulting our website when they come for home ball games,” she said.
The next segment – which will air to the pre-game show for the Arkansas game – will feature information on the Starkville Holiday Bazaar, which will take place Dec. 1 to 3 at the Starkville Sportsplex.
In other matters, the VCC:
• Authorized the management and marketing contract with the GSDP while removing $10,000 set aside for retirement development purposes. Officials intend to make plans for the funds in the tourism budget, Gregory said.
• Met in executive session to discuss a personnel matter.
