Going into the 2013-2014 baseball season, many were saying the Starkville Academy Volunteers were young so they would not win much.
Instead of letting the naysayers get them down, the Volunteers did “everything to win” and in the end produced what coach Jody Britt calls a “good year.”
“The kids took it in stride and as a challenge,” the first year coach said. “They didn’t like people saying they were young and weren’t supposed to win this year. They took it as there was no reason for them to lose and didn’t let early season bumps and bruises dampen their enthusiasm and actually became a really good team by the end of the year.”
