Mississippi State's baseball identity was built around a solid pitching staff and good defensive play last season.
The No. 2 Bulldogs committed three errors and gave up three runs in the ninth inning in a 6-4 loss to Memphis on Wednesday.
MSU head coach John Cohen wants his team to get back to that identity they had last season.
"We've got to get our identity back," Cohen said after the loss to Memphis. "We've got guys on our ball club who are trying to pretend to be something that they're not.
"We've got a long way to go. I still think this club's going to be a very, very nice club. They've just been searching for their identity right now and it's our job as a coaching staff to help them find that."
