There are certain defensive players that fit the label as the quarterback of that side of the football.
For the Starkville Yellowjackets, linebacker Taylor Johnston fits that description.
Johnston has filled that role well for the Jackets during the last three seasons.
"He's a two-year starter and played a lot as a sophomore toward the end of the year," SHS defensive coordinator Brooks Oakley said. "He gets everybody lined up and that's the big thing. He's a smart guy and uses his brains to play defense. He and Marlow (Rogers) have been around for a while and know their responsibilities. A lot of time they know which play is coming before it actually comes. You know what's coming and what to expect. It's helpful when you've been around for three years."
