In a key Region 2-6A showdown, Starkville pulled out a one-run, 13-12 win over Tupelo.
The Lady Yellowjackets (5-10, 1-2) took a 13-10 lead into the seventh inning and narrowly held on for the victory.
With Tupelo having already closed the gap to one in the final frame, the Lady Wave's hopes were ended on a ground out to SHS first baseman Shareda Brown, stranding the bases loaded to end the game.
Shanice Campbell pitched the complete game for Starkville, and earned praise from Lady Jackets head coach Lisa Spencer.
"(Campbell) really came up big for us today," said Spencer. "She only walked two batters the whole game, and that really helped us."
Brown, Tiyuanna Ringo, and and Reonee Clark paced the Starkville offense.
Brown notched a triple, Ringo added a pair of triples, and Clark had a pair of doubles to key the 13-run Lady Jacket attack.
The Starkville win sets up a home showdown with Columbus next Tuesday. If the Lady Jackets win, they'll clinch a playoff berth.
Starkville also plays a non-district game at West Lowndes on Monday.
