There are many good reasons why the Federal Emergency Management Agency chose September as National Preparedness Month.
FEMA and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security created National Preparedness Month 10 years ago in response to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, hence their choice of month. Several dangerous hurricanes have also made landfall in Septembers past. Meggan Franks, assistant director for student leadership and community engagement at Mississippi State University, said this September would bring another, more positive coincidence to campus.
