The high school football programs at Starkville and New Hope didn't exchange film prior to today's jamboree action at Mississippi State's Davis Wade Stadium.
As far as getting tuned up for the season-opener next week, the element of surprise is actually a welcomed thing.
The Yellowjackets meet the Trojans in the final scrimmage of the day at 7 p.m. and SHS coach Jamie Mitchell looks forward to using the event as "an evaluation tool."
"For anybody who plays in this, it's more about getting your guys in situations they need to be in and puts us in positions where we need to get evaluated," Mitchell said. "We hope to be better in all phases. It will be a great measuring stick as much as anything to see what we need to work on. That's the whole purpose for us trying to get it done."
The participating teams in the jamboree, which is run annually by New Hope, will play a varsity half regulation, then a junior varsity quarter.
The action kicks off at 9 a.m. with West Lowndes and Caledonia meeting in a county rivalry situation. Kosciusko plays Aberdeen at 11 a.m., while Louisville takes on West Point at 1 p.m., Northwest Rankin challenges Noxubee County at 3 p.m., and Grenada meets Columbus at 5 p.m.
The price of admission to the jamboree is $7 for the day.
