HATTIESBURG – The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers earned an important victory on the road Friday night and used a big second quarter to defeat Presbyterian Christian 53-43.
It was a meeting of the two top teams in Class AAA as Starkville Academy improved to 22-0 and Presbyterian Christian lost for only the second time this season and fell to 18-2.
After taking a 13-12 lead after one quarter of play, the Lady Vols outscored their host 11-4 to increase the margin to 24-16.
Presbyterian Christian had the third-quarter advantage at 14-12, but SA outscored PCS 17-13 in the fourth frame to secure the win.
Anna Lea Little led the Lady Vols in scoring with 18 points, while Tiffany Huddleston also scored in double digits with 16 points. Little and Sallie Kate Richardson pulled down eight rebounds each. Richardson had five assists and Huddleston contributed four steals.
The Vols and Lady Vols are back home today against Copiah Academy.
