Jackson to return to MSU for senior year

Mississippi State junior offensive lineman Gabe Jackson announced Thursday that he was going to return for his senior season.

The 6-foot-4 320-pound offensive guard from Liberty received feedback from the NFL Draft Advisory Board in December, but decided it was in his best interest to return to the Bulldogs.

"It has been and will continue to be my dream to play in the National Football League, but after talking with my parents, coach (Dan) Mullen and (offensive line) coach (John) Hevesy, I know the right decision for me is to return to Mississippi State," Jackson said in a school release. "I love playing for this university and for all the people of my home state. I'm looking forward to leading this team as a senior."

ESPN's Mel Kiper has Jackson rated as the top junior guard prospect in the nation.

Jackson is a two-time All-Southeastern Conference selection and was selected to the All-American second team by Phil Steele and FoxSportsNext after the 2012 season.

Jackson has started all 39 games of his MSU career at left guard.

It is unknown if right guard Tobias Smith will return for a sixth season. He has the option to apply for a medical sixth season, but has also sought feedback from the NFL.
