Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Deputies have a man in custody in connection with a Dec. 28 shooting which left one victim with a gunshot wound.
Lorenzo Lamas Hunter, 27, of 598 Blair Road, was arrested Dec. 29 and charged with one count of aggravated assault. He is in Oktibbeha County Jail and his bond has been set at $10,000.
Chief Deputy Chadd Garnett said his court date has been tentatively scheduled for Feb. 5.
Garnett said deputies responded to a call from OCH Regional Medical Center at 1:34 a.m. of a gunshot victim, who said he was leaving a friend's house on Blair Road when he heard the back glass of his vehicle shatter. Afterwards, he realized he'd been shot and drove himself to OCH, Garnett said.
He said OCSD had been looking for the suspect after the victim was able to cooperate with authorities despite his injury.
"We actually looked for (Hunter) all day the day the incident happened and continued to look. Through information we got, he was living at 598 Blair Road. Through that information we were able to obtain a search warrant. We executed the warrant early on the 29th and apprehended the suspect without incident," Garnett said.
Interviews with the suspect have yielded no information as to a motive, he said, but it is believed the incident was over a female.
Garnett confirmed Hunter has prior misdemeanor charges.
