Mr. James Doss (J.D.) McDonald of Sturgis, 90, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at Sturgis Baptist Church with Rev. Russell Mord and Rev. James Mills officiating.
Burial will follow in McClelland Cemetery in Sturgis.
Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, and Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 from 1-2 p.m. at Sturgis Baptist Church prior to services.
Welch Funeral Home of Starkville is in charge of arrangements.
J.D. was born in Clarke County, Ala., on May 23, 1922. He moved to Mississippi at the age of four and spent his younger adult life farming in Glen Allen. He relocated to Sturgis in 1959 and retired from Herschede Hall Clock Company.
He was a World War II veteran, having enlisted with the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of Sturgis Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
Mr. McDonald loved to farm, fish and hunt, but his family was the most important thing in his life.
He is survived by his four daughters, Margaret McClelland (Bobby) of Sturgis, Martha Palmer of Starkville, Kathy Collier (Keith) of Louisville and Carolyn Miller (John) of Gulfport; son, Clyde McDonald (Michelle) of Sturgis; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
