MERIDIAN – The Starkville Lady Yellowjackets won their fifth-straight game by defeating Northeast Jones 54-41 at the Meridian Tournament.
"We hope the trend continues," SHS girls coach Kristie Williams said of the recent success of her team. "We hope to keep them going as we look to get back in action against Grenada next Saturday."
The game was tied 9-9 after the first quarter, but the Lady Jackets (5-2) out-scored Northeast Jones 10-7 in the second quarter to take a 19-16 lead at halftime.
In the second half, SHS had a 13-8 in the third quarter and 22-17 in the fourth to move on to the victory.
Imane Montgomery had a double-double for the Lady Jackets with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Kelsye Reed added 16 points and Blair Schaefer contributed 13 points. Off the bench, Taylor Price pulled down 11 rebounds.
The SHS boys will join the girls in competition at Grenada next Saturday.
