1-car accident on Sturgis Maben Road claims life

County officials confirmed a one-car accident claimed the life of an Oktibbeha County woman this morning on Sturgis Maben Road.

According to Oktibbeha County Sheriff's Department Commander Shank Phelps, deputies responded to a call of an accident at approximately 6:50 a.m. near the intersection of Sturgis Maben Road and New Light Road. Phelps said the 50-year-old female motorist, who was driving a 2007 Pontiac G6, ran off the road and hit several trees.

Coroner Michael Hunt said he is still trying to notify next of kin about the accident. Until Hunt confirms a family member is made aware of the accident, SDN will not reveal the victim's identity.

Phelps said there is no evidence to indicate drugs or alcohol to be a factor.

Hunt said the victim died of multi-system trauma as a result of her injuries. He confirmed the victim to have a "chronic medical history" but does not believe that caused her to run off the roadway.
