West Oktibbeha has put itself in a pretty spot for the playoffs, but that doesn't mean they have let their guard down.
The Timberwolves (5-1, 3-0) are not overlooking Class A, Region 3, District 4 foe Ethel (2-5, 0-4).
West Oktibbeha and Ethel are set for a 7 p.m. kickoff for Ethel's homecoming.
"We aren't overlooking anything," Timberwolf head coach Adam Lowrey said. "To the kids, playing another school's homecoming has made them not to overlook this game. We know there's a lot riding on this game."
In last year's meeting, West Oktibbeha got the better of Ethel, beating them 42-18.
"They are multi on offense," Lowrey said. "They will do a little under center, double-winged and they will do a little shotgun."
West Oktibbeha has yet to really struggle this season, and Lowrey and his team are hoping its good play continues.
"The Lord has blessed us this season," Lowrey said.
In other area matchups for week eight, East Oktibbeha hosts Noxapater, East Webster gets J.Z. George at home, Eupora plays host to Hamilton, Ackerman plays Williams Sullivan at home and Hebron Christian travels to Bessemer, Ala. to take on Flint Hill Christian. All games are set for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
Noxapater (5-2, 4-0)
at East Oktibbeha (2-4, 1-2)
The Titans host the defending Class A State Champion Tigers on homecoming weekend.
East Oktibbeha is coming off bye after a disappointing 12-0 loss to West Lowndes two weeks ago.
In last year's meeting, Noxapater took a 41-18 victory.
J.Z. George (2-5, 0-1)
at East Webster (5-2, 0-1)
The Wolverines are looking to get their first Class 2A, Region, 2, District 4 win of the season.
Last week, the Wolverines dropped a 6-0 decision to Ackerman.
"It is critical," East Webster head coach Doug Wilson said. "We have to get this one (tonight) to be where we want to be at the end of the district. The kids have worked hard this week, and we have stressed the importance of coming out and playing our best. We need to be 1-1, not 0-2."
To get to 2-0, the Wolverines will have to beat a very young, but talented J.Z. George squad.
"They are very athletic," Wilson said. "They are a young team but well coached. They're a team we will have to play very good, error-free ball to be on top."
Hamilton (3-4, 1-0)
at Eupora (6-1, 1-0)
The Eagles come in with a lot of momentum and a chip on their shoulder.
Last season, the Lions beat the Eagles 32-6.
"They have a really special running back in Deion Howard," Eupora head coach Junior Graham said. "He is a good football player. They throw the ball decent."
Getting to 2-0 in Class 2A, Region 2, District 4 will be big for Graham and his Eagles.
"It is real important to not get behind the eight ball when you know what you're facing the next few weeks in Ackerman and East Webster," Graham said.
Williams Sullivan (2-5, 0-1)
at Ackerman (5-2, 1-0)
The Indians have put themselves in a good spot to repeat as Class 2A, Region 2, District 4 champions.
A 6-0 victory over East Webster last week got them off to a good start, and a win this week will go a long way.
"It's where we need to be if we want to win our division championship," Ackerman head coach Adam Dillinger said. "This one counts as much as the one last week. The one next week and the one after that (counts the same way). We just have to take them one at a time and do our best."
The Yellowjackets are a much improved team and Dillinger has taken notice.
"They are athletic," Dillinger said. "They have won a couple of ballgames this year, so they are better than they've been in some of the years past. We have to play our game and play well."
Hebron Christian (7-0)
at Flint Hill Christian (0-6)
The Eagles look to keep their magical season blemish free against the Flames in eight-man football.
