Mrs. Dorothy B. Vizzier, 92, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, Fayetteville, Ark. after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
A memorial service will be held Oct. 5, 2012 at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Springdale, Ark.
Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville, Ark. is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Mumford, Tenn., she married Benton A. Vizzier in 1944. In addition to being a wife and mother, she achieved her life-long dream of becoming a nurse when she graduated from the University of Alabama with a B.S.R.N. in 1972. She worked in the Huntsville Hospital and Veterans Administration Medical System until her retirement in 1992. She and her husband moved to Mississippi in 2006 to be close to family. They again moved with their daughter to Fayetteville, Ark. in 2011.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Benton A. Vizzier Sr.; daughter, Yvonne V. Thaxton of Fayetteville, Ark.; sons, Michael and his wife Leigh of Coronado, Calif., Richard and his wife Gloria of Virginia Beach, Va. and son Benton Jr. and Jackey H. Vizzier, of Ben Lomand, Calif.; half-sister, Pat Denne of St. Cloud, Minn.; grandchildren, Alexandra V. Stephensen, Chase Vizzier, and Paige T. Burke; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
As she lived her life, Dorothy asked that her remains go to the medical school for research.
