The Boys and Girls Club of the Golden Triangle-Starkville is opening its doors to show the community the exciting items planned for the coming months.
From 6-8 p.m. today, visitors will have the chance to step inside the club to see what occurs on a daily basis at the non-profit, outreach organization.
Executive Director Joyce Ellenwood said the event is the club’s first open house.
“We’re inviting the community, interested parents and kids to give them an introduction to the club,” Ellenwood said. “We’ll be talking with attendees and have registration on site.”
Ellenwood said a brief introduction of the club will be given along with sharing some of the events that have taken place and what is to come for the after school program in the fall.
“We’ll be giving details on what our fall program is going to look like,” she said. “We’ve made a number of changes, including our new unit director Jacquie Myers.”
Ellenwood said Myers has been a great addition to the Boys and Girls Club team.
“Jacquie is very innovative when it comes to programming,” she said. “She works so well with the parents and our members and we have a lot of exciting things to come each term we are open.”
Ellenwood said she is thankful for Myers and all the volunteers for the Boys and Girls Club, including Mississippi State University student and volunteer Hannah Hathorn.
“Hannah is so consistent and has been here just about every day since she came to us in January,” she said. “She has been such a valuable asset.”
Hathorn said the club strives to inspire community youth development through education, career programs, character leadership, health and life skills activities and the arts.
“The Boys and Girls Club of the Golden Triangle-Starkville shares the mission of other Boys and Girls Clubs across our country,” she said. “’To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible young citizens.”
The Boys and Girls Club of the Golden Triangle-Starkville hosts its open house tonight from 6-8 p.m. For more information on the club, contact Jacquie Myers at Myers.bgcgt@yahoo.com [3] or call the office at 662-615-9980.
