The Starkville Board of Aldermen will interview 10 candidates applying to fill the role of Director of Finance/City Clerk during its 5 p.m. recess meeting today at the Sportsplex conference room.
Starkville Personnel Officer Randy Boyd said it is not expected that a selection will be made after the interviews are over tonight.
The eventual hire will succeed former City Clerk Markeeta Outlaw, who retired June 1.
The pay scale for the position will be a salary grade 18, which has a range from $63,684 to $84,755.
The candidates include Taylor Adams, Emma Gandy, Lisa Hardin, Pamela Harlan-McSwain, John Jackovic, Pansy McCaskill-Holman, Robert Pilgrim, Jannie Thompson, Jonita Thompson and Brenda Walters.
Emma Gandy has worked as a deputy city clerk since 1999.
The board selected those 10 to be interviewed from a pool of submissions, all from qualified candidates, Boyd said.
“The board has reviewed all of the submissions by the candidates and have selected 10 for interviews,” Boyd said. “We’re certainly impressed with the candidates and look forward to the interview process where we can get a further background of their qualifications.”
Before advertising for the position, the board heeded Boyd’s recommendation to upgrade from a salary grade 15 in order to have a more highly qualified pool of candidates.
The board opted to change the description of the title from city clerk to director of finance/city clerk in April.
