Dr. and Mrs. Vernon Ammon will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on a 16-day cruise to Norway and Russia aboard the Ocean Princess. The anniversary date of June 30, 2012 will find them at sea somewhere between Honningsvag, Norway and Flaam, Norway.
After receiving his Ph.D. in plant pathology from the University of Missouri, Vernon joined the faculty of Mississippi State University in the department of plant pathology and weed science in 1973, and retired as a full professor in 2003.
He also served on active duty in the United States Army and retired from the Mississippi National Guard as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1993.
Terry earned a B.A. and M.S. in elementary education and retired from the Starkville public school system after 25 years of service.
Retirement for the couple has been filled with traveling, golf, tennis, bridge, fellowship with family and friends and playing with their grandson John Parker Ammon, son of John Ammon, M.D. and wife Regina who live in Birmingham, Ala.
