Thomas R. Runnels, 60, died Monday, June 25, 2012 with his loving family by his side.
Funeral services will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Pearson-Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home in Middletown, Ky. and will continue 7:30-9 p.m. at Hurstbourne Country Club.
Visitation will be held 2-6 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012 at the funeral home.
Pearson-Ratterman Brother Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A second memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Visitation will be held 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Tom was born at the West Point Military Academy in Stony Point, N.Y., on April 28, 1952.
Tom enjoyed an extensive and varied work background including over 25 years in the banking industry, most recently as Senior VP of Marketing for PNC (formerly Citizens Fidelity) Bank. He worked for institutions in Birmingham, Ala. and Nashville, Tenn. before settling in Louisville, Ky. in 1986. Following his banking career, Tom worked in entrepreneurial enterprises involving telecommunications, internet marketing, private aviation and bank consulting, serving as President of T.Comm Marketing, Inc.
Tom is a graduate of Mississippi State University and The Stonier Graduate School of Banking (Rutgers University).
Tom gave back to his community by proudly serving on several boards including Kentucky Special Olympics (Chairman), Leadership Louisville, Leadership Nashville, The Advertising Club of Louisville, Operation Brightside (Chairman), Spirit of Louisville Foundation and Channel 15 Public Television.
An avid golfer, Tom was a member of Hurstbourne Country Club and served on its Board of Directors for several years.
Tom will be missed by his beloved wife and partner of 12 years and 8 months, Marti Hazel; daughter, Mary Catherine Runnels; mother, Mary M. Runnels of Starkville; brothers, Kenny Runnels (Theresa) of Starkville and Jim Runnels (Aimee) of Birmingham, Ala.; sisters, Elizabeth Rook (Peter), Patricia Wilkes and Barbara Coats, all of Starkville. Tom’s extended family includes 14 nieces and nephews and 12 great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Runnels, of Starkville and Runnelstown, Mississippi.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may go to the Kentucky Humane Society or Kentucky Special Olympics.
