The Starkville High School golf teams have been battle-tested this season.
When the Yellowjackets and Lady Jackets compete in the Class 5A State meets this week, they hope the experience gained throughout the season works in their favor.
"This year we've played a fairly tough schedule with some stout competition week in and week out so I'm hoping that pays off in the state tournament," SHS golf coach Sam Bryant said. "We're looking for a good outcome for girls and boys."
The Lady Jackets compete at Canton Country Club today and Tuesday after Sunday's practice round, while the Jackets prepare to play at the Columbus Country Club Tuesday and Wednesday with a practice round today.
Bryant will accompany the boys to Columbus and even though pleased with the year to this point, he can't help but think there may be something better on the horizen.
"I'm hoping right now we're peaking and that we've saved the best for last," Bryant said.
Ryan Lacy and Logan Maddox are the two seniors that Bryant expects to lead the Jackets, while Savannah Hobart is the only senior girl.
"We are going to count pretty heavily (on them) in the state tournament," Bryant said. "(We will) let the round play and see what comes about afterward."
