Starkville High School athletic director Stan Miller has found the next man to head the school's baseball program and he's anxious for everyone to meet him.
A 10 a.m. press conference has been called for Thursday at the SHS library to introduce the new coach.
Miller encourages anyone who has an interest in the future of the Yellowjackets in baseball to attend the press conference.
"We've talked to the boosters and we're going to have them there," Miller said. "We are inviting the public and would like to have them come out to the press conference."
The new coach is expected to be in Starkville today for final approval during a special meeting of the school board.
Miller was satisfied with the progress of the process, which began with 28 applicants and was narrowed down to seven finalists.
"There were three people on the (search) committee that screened the seven candidates," Miller said. "All seven were head coaches and brought a lot of experience to the table."
The seven candidates were interviewed last week and evaluated on Friday. The No. 1 choice was identified, contacted Monday morning and he accepted the job.
Once the new coach is approved and introduced on Thursday, he will take over for Danny Carlisle, who retires effective after the season. Carlisle served the Starkville School District for 35 years and the last 29 as head baseball coach.
Carlisle and the Yellowjackets begin competing in the Class 5A playoffs Thursday at home against Center Hill.View more articles in:
