For Logan Crosland, Thursday was just more than a tennis match.
The senior helped Starkville Academy beat Hillcrest Christian 5-1 on senior day Thursday afternoon.
"It is very important," Crosland said of getting a win. "I feel like we have played hard all season. We have had some tough losses, but it's good to get a win."
Crosland won in boys singles 6-0, 6-0 along with Will Christianson in the other boys single match 6-0, 6-0.
"We were a very, very young team," Crosland said of being a leader. "Just anyway I could help after practice or during practice I tried to help the coaches out."
SA tennis coach Lynn Moorhead knows how important it was to Crosland and was glad they were able to get a win on his last home match.
"I think it is huge," Moorhead said. "He has also been playing mixed doubles all along and they have been winning. He played singles for me (Thursday) and he was able to win. It was very important for him."
For the win in general, Moorhead was glad they got it.
"It is huge," Moorhead said. "It is very exciting for our team. We just had a great win. It's a long time coming for our school. We are improving, getting better and we can see the results finally."
In girls singles, Bell Hester won 6-4, 6-1. Kacey Faver and Anastasia Kasper won in girls doubles 6-1, 6-0. In the other girls doubles match, Shelby Pellum and Sarah Morgan Pellum of SA won 6-1, 6-0.
SA's only loss came in girls singles when Shelby Marsh lost to Reagan Chisolm 6-4, 4-6(7-10).
"We have had some girls and guys not see a whole lot of success, but they have been working hard," Moorhead said. "They have been at it non-stop. Now we are seeing the results. It's finally paying off."
