Wet weather causes shift with schedule
Tuesday brought a lot of rain, and forced high school baseball teams to change schedules.
Starkville High School was scheduled to play at Canton Tuesday, but they have been moved to today. The site is yet to be determined due to the fact that school officials do not know what the Canton baseball field will look like.
If the field is playable, the Yellowjackets travel to Canton for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. If the field is unplayable, Canton makes the trip north and the doubleheader will be played at Yellowjacket Field.
If SHS sweeps Canton, it claims the No. 1 seed in the Class 5A, Region 3, District 4 for the playoffs. A split and a Neshoba Central loss will also guarantee a first place finish for the Jackets.
East Webster was scheduled to play Leake County Tuesday but it was canceled. Instead of make those games up, Leake County forfeited giving the Wolverines two wins.
That makes East Webster 10-0 in Class 2A, Region 5, District 4. It owns the No. 1 seed and gets a first round bye in the playoffs.
Starkville Academy makes up its game today at Hillcrest Christian. One varsity game is scheduled for today at 4 p.m.
On Thursday, Hillcrest returns the trip and plays a doubleheader beginning at 4:30 p.m.
