The East Oktibbeha boys' track team is looking to do something no other squad has done in school history.
Today the Titans will look to win their third straight division championship in Pontotoc. The titans participate in Class A, Region 4, District 1.
"We need something positive to happen in our sports program and in our school," coach Randy Brooks said. "I think we have a good chance because we have had good showings all spring."
The team, as well as, individuals will be looking to move on and make it to the final destination, state. A top four finish will get individuals to the region championship.
Bernard Harris runs in the 100-meter dash, the 4x100 relay and the 4x200 relay. Juwan Brown competes in both relays and the 100-meter dash as well. James Brown runs the 200-meter dash and competes in for both relay teams.
"We need to get points in the sprints," Brooks said. "Holding us back is the field events. We need a strong showing (in the field events)."
Jalen Peterson may be the answer in the field events. He has thrown a Class A state high 44 feet in the shot put.
Terrence Rice runs in the open 400-meter race and is on the 800-meter relay team.
"You can't have a bad day in track and continue on," Brooks said.
The Lady Titans will compete as well. Brooks hopes that Savannah Blair and Chastity Evans make a good showing in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes respectively.
The event will begin at 2:30 p.m. and will be held at the Pontotoc High School track.View more articles in:
