After a successful inaugural event in the fall, unWINE Downtown returns tomorrow evening. The event is scheduled for 5:30-9:30 p.m., beginning at the Greater Starkville Development Partnership. unWINE Downtown is an evening of ladies-only shopping and wine tasting.
“We extended the hours this time because we realized that people were really taking advantage of the sales and doing a lot of shopping,” Jennifer Gregory, GSDP vice-president of tourism development, said. “This has become a true shopping event, and we couldn’t be more thrilled.”
Gregory said each participant should bring her ticket to the GSDP office at 200 East Main St. between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to pick up her complimentary stemless wine glass and a list of participating stores
“Then go shop and taste to your heart’s content,” Gregory said.
Gregory said the feedback received in the fall encouraged the GSDP to make the event bigger and better this time. This spring’s event features more businesses, more wines and longer hours to accommodate what Gregory said she hopes is a much larger crowd.
“We had a great turnout in November with around 75 ladies participating,” Gregory said. “We’re expecting anywhere from 100 to 150 this time, which is why we extended the hours. We want to make sure everyone has plenty of time to shop at each store.”
Nearly 20 Main Street member stores are confirmed to be participating — all offering 25 percent off everything for this one-night event. Each store will also host a featured wine for tasting, selected by Main Street member Oak and Steel Wine & Spirits.
“We try to keep each bottle of wine under $15, so if someone enjoys a wine they taste, it’s an affordable bottle for just about anyone to purchase again,” Gregory said. “We have to thank Phoenix Adams of Oak and Steel for helping come up with some great wine selections. She really goes above and beyond to select wines that are a little different so that people get the chance to try something new.”
Gregory said people have the option of using their own transportation, but a transportation service will be provided for safety reasons. As of press time, participating retailers include The Sundial, Mary Virginia’s, Book Mart & Café, Frock Fashions, Occasions, Christine’s, Libby Story, Polka Tots, R. Tab & Co., Thyme, Oooh La La, Harmonie Boutique, Bath Bayou, Reed’s, Aspen Bay, L.A. Green Boutique, Something Southern, Sprout B. Davis Shoes and Vitality Skin & Spa.
