CLINTON – The Starkville Academy Lady Volunteers were at it once again Wednesday afternoon.

For the third-straight game, the Lady Vols found themselves down in the fourth quarter as Bowling Green School (La.), held a 33-27 at the beginning of the final frame.

Starkville Academy went on to out-score Bowling Green 18-2 in the fourth quarter and won a 45-35 decision at the MAIS Overall State Tournament on the campus of Mississippi College.

The Lady Vols did not allow Bowling Green to make a field goal in the fourth quarter.

SA girls coach Glenn Schmidt credited the play of Julianne Jackson and Tiffany Huddleston off the bench, who combined for 28 of the 45 points.
"April Burney went down with a head injury but she's OK so we got down our bench a little bit, but Julianne came in and did a good job for us," Schmidt said. "Tiffany Huddleston came in and did a good job for us."
Bowling Green took an 11-9 advantage after the first quarter and stretched that lead to 23-13 by halftime.

After the Lady Vols out-scored Bowling Green 14-10 in the third quarter, they went on to have the big fourth to get the victory.

Jackson led Starkville Academy with 15 points, while Huddleston added 13 points. Sallie Kate Richardson had 10 rebounds.

Lady Vol point guard Anna Prestridge had the responsibility of guarding Bowling Green's leading scorer Makala Dykes, who averaged 18 points prior to the game. Prestridge held Dykes to two points.

"That was a huge factor in the second half for us," Schmidt said.
Starkville Academy held Bowling Green to 24.4 percent shooting from the field (11-of-45) and the Lady Vols held a 30-22 advantage in rebounding.
Improving to 36-5, Starkville Academy plays Jackson Prep in the semifinals Friday at 1 p.m.
