Process begins to find next SHS baseball coach

Starkville High School athletic director Stan Miller has announced that the search for the next baseball coach at the school has begun.

Beginning today, SHS is advertising for someone to replace Danny Carlisle, who will retire as coach of the Yellowjackets at the end of the season.

Miller is taking applications through the month of March.

"My game plan is to run it the month of March, get resumes in and form a small screening committee," Miller said. "In the month of April, we'll bring in some finalists and start interviewing."

Miller believes the interest in becoming the next SHS baseball coach will be high.

There are certain things Miller is looking for and expects a "wide open" search.

"I'm going to bring the best man possible that has winning record, can work with boosters, can build a program and works with the feeder systems," Miller said. "It was the same thing with (football coach Jamie) Mitchell."

Miller knows there will be those that played and coached with Carlisle that will show some interest.

He didn't rule out the fact that one of those men might be heavily considered, but emphasized the best coach will be hired.

"I'm going to bring the best guy in here that will put us at the next level," Miller said. "I know those gentlemen (that played and coached with Carlisle) will apply and they are all great people, but as they say the cream will rise to the top."
