PILADELPHIA – As they say, the third time is the charm.
That is what it was for the No. 3 seed Starkville High School girls' basketball team in a 58-55 double overtime win against No. 2 seed Neshoba Central Thursday night in the Class 5A, Region 3, District 4 tournament.
The Lady Yellowjackets lost the two regular season games against the Lady Rockets, once in Philadelphia and the other in Starkville on senior night.
SHS head coach Kristie Williams was hoping her team could get over the hump and win the game that really mattered.
The Lady Jackets jumped out to a 13-6 lead after the first quarter. The Lady Rockets won the second quarter outscoring the SHS 9-6.
But the Lady Jackets took a 19-15 lead into the locker room at half.
The Lady Jackets' lead vanished after the third quarter as the Lady Rockets took a 35-30 lead into the final frame.
One overtime was not enough for this win-or-go-home game.
SHS outscored Neshoba Central 10-7 in the extra frames.
Brittany Brown led the Lady Jackets with 26 points. Jacqueline Fair added 11 points for SHS.
The Lady Yellowjackets will be back in action today as they play in the championship against No. 1 seed Canton at 6 p.m.
